PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : AROUND THE NFL : Prosecutors Meet in Igwebuike Case
Federal prosecutors in Tampa, Fla., have met for more than an hour with Ibezim Ofedu, 27, a Nigerian man being held on heroin smuggling charges in a probe reportedly linked to Minnesota Viking kicker Donald Igwebuike.
An attorney for Maduwuba Oluchukwa Ibekwe, another Nigerian charged in the case, said the prosecutors offered his client a plea bargain to testify against Igwebuike. Rickey Williams, Ibekwe’s attorney, said his client turned down the proposed plea arrangements.
NFL coaches and team executives have been warned in a memo from Commissioner Paul Tagliabue that they risk substantial fines for publicly criticizing officials, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.
