Develop a Spray for Older Roofs

Share

I read with interest that the Palos Verdes Estates City Council voted that all new or replacement roofs must be fire-resistant (Times, Oct. 26). Similar laws have been in effect in the city of Los Angeles and other county cities for several years.

Although disputed by the county fire chief, the wood-shake roof industry association has long claimed that their fire-resistant product is absolutely fire-resistant. In this summer’s Yosemite fire, it was reported that a fire-retardant spray was used on trees.

Since it is cost-prohibitive to replace existing roofs with fireproof roofs, I challenge the wood-shake industry, using their chemists, technicians, engineers, etc. to develop and market a 100% fireproof spray for existing roofs. This would be invaluable in fire-prone areas like P.V.E.
