Former Seattle Seahawk Kenny Easley dropped his injury lawsuit against the team but will continue legal action against the maker of a medication he blames for kidney damage, his lawyer said.

Easley also will pursue a workers’ compensation claim.

Easley, 31, a five-time All-Pro safety for the Seahawks, received a kidney transplant in June. His seven-year pro career ended in the spring of 1988 when irreversible kidney damage was discovered during a routine team physical.

In 1989 Easley sued the Seahawks, team trainer Jim Whitesel, several doctors and Whitehall Laboratories of New York, the makers of Advil. He alleged he was allowed to play through the 1987 season without being told he had the kidney problem. He contended his kidneys were ruined by large doses of the pain reliever ibuprofen, contained in Advil.

All of the defendants denied liability.

The suit against the Seahawks and Whitesel was dismissed Wednesday with prejudice by King County Superior Court Judge Steven Scott. The dismissal with prejudice means it cannot be refiled.
