LAGUNA BEACH : PTA Forum for School Candidates

Residents will get a last chance to question school board candidates at a forum sponsored by the Laguna Beach Parent Teacher Assn. this morning.

It will be the first forum devoted exclusively to school board candidates vying for three seats in Tuesday’s election. Five candidates have entered the race, including incumbents Susan Mas and Tim Davis. The three challengers include Carl E. Schwarz, a Fullerton College political science professor who was recalled in 1987. Other challengers are Karen Linden, a registered nurse, and Eugene Felder, vice president of the Laguna Canyon Conservancy.

Incumbent Harvey Triebwasser is not seeking reelection.

This will be the first school board election since three board members were recalled in 1987 after residents objected to their decision not to fire former Laguna Beach High School football Coach Cedrick W. Hardman, who was arrested on charges of cocaine possession in 1986. The charges were dropped when he completed a drug-diversion program.

The forum will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the district office board meeting room at 550 Blumont St.
