Share

Los Angeles police are searching for several suspects in the shooting death of a 10-year-old boy who was asleep in his Harbor Gateway apartment Wednesday when a drug dispute broke out in the same room.

A friend of the boy’s mother had let several men into the one-room apartment when an argument broke out over drug trafficking shortly before 10 p.m., said Detective Larry Kallestad.

At least six shots were fired, one striking Luis Salazar Torres in the chest as he slept on a couch. Another bullet narrowly missed his 6-year-old sister, who was also asleep. A third child fled the apartment through a window during the fight.

Police said they are seeking the mother’s boyfriend, whom they declined to name. The other men involved in the argument are still unknown, police said.
