P.M. BRIEFING : Kitty Litter Manufacturer Sold

SOUTH BEND, Ind. —
Privately held Edward Lowe Industries Inc., manufacturer of Kitty Litter cat box filler, said today that it has completed the sale of the company to a group of investors for undisclosed terms.
The investment group is led by New York-based Good Capital Co. Inc. and Chicago’s Knightsbridge Inc.
Philip Smith, who has been chairman of Pillsbury Co. and General Foods Corp., was named chairman of the newly acquired company which has been renamed Golden Cat Corp. Franklin Krum, former president of Alpo Pet Foods Inc., was named president.
Golden Cat said it has nearly 40% of the cat box filler market estimated at about $500 million.
