HemaCare Corp., a Sherman Oaks-based provider of blood-related services and products, reported a $290,000 loss for the third quarter, compared with a $126,526 profit a year earlier.

The loss in the quarter that ended Sept. 30 came despite a 48% jump in HemaCare’s revenue, to $2.18 million from $1.47 million. The company blamed the loss on costs associated with its new clinical laboratories business and to research projects.

In the first nine months of 1990, HemaCare lost $523,594 compared with year-earlier earnings of $333,328. Its nine-month revenue climbed 38% to $5.78 million from $4.18 million.
