A missing-person report filed Monday enabled the Orange County coroner’s office and Santa Ana police to identify the body of a youth found stabbed to death last week, authorities said.

The body of Mauricio Toval Gomez, 17, of Santa Ana was found about 3 a.m. Oct. 28 in front of a residence in the 3600 block of West 5th Street, authorities said. About 10:30 a.m. Monday, an aunt of the youth filed the report, and her description of her nephew matched that of the stabbing victim, enabling authorities to make the identification, they said.

No suspects have been named in the case, police said.

The youth had tattoos of the letter M on his left shin, left shoulder and between his left thumb and forefinger, and the letters MI and N were tattooed on the top of his left hand, coroner’s officials said.
