An Arizona woman was killed when the vehicle she was traveling in tumbled down an embankment off the Golden State Freeway in the Castaic area Tuesday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The dead woman was from Phoenix and was believed to have been about 45 years old, but her name was not immediately known, CHP Officer Ken Travis said.

The woman and three others were traveling south in a 1985 Chevy Blazer near Templin Highway when the tread came off a recapped tire. When the driver applied the brakes, the vehicle went out of control, tumbled down the left side of the freeway and rolled over, Travis said.
