The northbound San Diego Freeway was closed briefly this morning while the California Highway Patrol cleaned up a collision between a garbage truck and a car, authorities said.

The 10 a.m. accident left one driver slightly injured and forced closure of the freeway for about 10 minutes. The mishap tied up northbound traffic for about an hour, CHP Officer Charles Swift said.

The driver of the car, whose name was being withheld pending the investigation, was being treated at Tustin Health Care Medical Center for a cut on the back of her head and a pain in her upper left arm, Swift said.

Swift said it is still unclear how the collision occurred, but said that it may have been due to a backup of traffic leaving the freeway at the Jamboree Boulevard exit.

“That seems to be the reason,” he said. The investigation was continuing, he added.
