No. 1 Jogis Advances in Badminton Event
Chris Jogis, the top-rated badminton player in the United States, advanced through two rounds of men’s singles in the U.S. Badminton Championships Wednesday at the UC Irvine Bren Center.
Jogis, who lives in Manhattan Beach, advanced through the first round by default, then defeated Lim Chien Chou of Taipei, 15-11, 6-15, 15-11.
Tom Reidy of New York also advanced to the third round, defeating Kai Chung Nong of Hong Kong, 15-2, 15-1, and then defeating John Matta of Long Beach, 15-4, 15-4. Benny Lee of Daly City won by default in the first round and defeated Nine-Biau Chen of Taipei, 15-7, 15-7, and Tariq Wadood of Manhattan Beach won by default in the first round and defeated Mie-Chon Lee, 15-8, 15-4 in the second round.
In the women’s singles, Ann French of San Diego advanced to the second round with a 11-7, 10-12, 11-8 victory over Terry Leyow of Jamaica.
