The Dream Doctor Leads the Field in California Sires Cup at Los Al

The Dream Doctor will head a field of 10 3-year-olds set to go to the post Saturday night in the $55,279 California Sires Cup at Los Alamitos.

The Sires Cup will be contested over 400 yards as the ninth race on the 12-race program.

A pair of trials for the Sires Cup were conducted on Oct. 31 with the 10 fastest qualifiers returning for Saturday’s final in quest of the $25,078 winner’s share of the purse. The Hans Visscher-trained The Dream Doctor recorded the fastest qualifying time when he covered the 400 yards in 20.01 seconds. The son of Merridoc has won four of his five lifetime starts.

Here Comes The Band posted the second-fastest qualifying time, 20.10 seconds. The filly has earned more than $60,000 in her racing career, more than any horse in the Sires Cup. Here Comes The Band has been first or second in 13 of her 19 lifetime starts.

All horses will carry 122 pounds.

In tonight’s program, two-time champion older gelding Chingaderos will take on six rivals in the $25,000 added California Handicap at Los Alamitos. The California is for state-breds and will be contested over 400 yards.
