Roll Out the Red Carpet: The Ardabil carpet, a rare artifact that has been on public view only a half-dozen times since 1912, is on display in the atrium of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Ahmanson Building for the next two weeks. The mammoth carpet, which is 23 1/2 feet long and 13 feet wide, contains more than 35,000,000 knots and features a large medallion as the center of a largely abstract design. The carpet, which was given to LACMA in 1953 by J. Paul Getty, was created in Iran in 1540.
