IRVINE : Irvine Co. to Detail Public-Land Plan

Share

The Irvine Co. plans to detail today how and when it will open some of its undeveloped land for public recreational use.

The company owns about 19,000 acres of open space, which is set aside for future parks in agreements with the county and local governments. Those agreements allow the Irvine Co. to build projects elsewhere.

In April, the company announced that it would create trails, parking lots and public amenities on thousands of acres and open the parks to the public years before it was required to relinquish that land. This morning’s announcement will unveil specifics of that plan, Irvine Co. spokeswoman Dawn McCormick said.

Opening Irvine Co. land to the public will be a departure from the company’s past practice of posting “No Trespassing” signs and guarding the land from intruders until it had been officially dedicated to the county or other local government.
