Two men and a woman were injured Tuesday in a stabbing and shooting that San Diego police said were related.

Police Agent Randal Eichmann said the incidents began at 5:41 p.m. when Jessie Flores, 21, stabbed Richard Williams and an unidentified man near 15th Street and Island Avenue.

Police are not sure what triggered the stabbings, but said Flores used a Buck knife. Williams, 37, was stabbed once, and the blade pierced a lung and his stomach. He was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was in critical condition. The second victim suffered a superficial wound and did not require hospitalization.

Flores was taken into custody and booked into County Jail.

About an hour later, Flores’ girlfriend, Sandra Hammond, called police to report that two men were robbing another man near the same intersection. Hammond, 33, reported that one of the robbers produced a small-caliber handgun and began shooting, police said.

One of the shots struck Hammond in the right calf, and she was taken to Mercy Hospital, where she was being treated Tuesday night.

Although police said the incidents are related, investigators said they did not know a motive.
