C. Curtis Gabrielson; Retired Accountant

C. Curtis Gabrielson, a retired certified public account and longtime Glendale resident, has died in a Glendale hospital. He was 87.

Gabrielson died Tuesday of heart failure, his daughter, Marylou Dudley, said.

Born March 9, 1903, in Los Angeles, Gabrielson opened an accounting firm in Los Angeles in 1932. He merged the firm, Gabrielson, O’Sullivan & Poulson, in 1956 with Haskins and Sells to become Deloitte Haskins & Sells. He retired in the mid-1960s.

Gabrielson was president of the California Certified Public Accountants Society in 1951-52, served on the governing council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants from 1951-56, and was president of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Defense Preparedness Assn. in 1959. He was a longtime member of the Jonathon Club in Los Angeles and the World Affairs Council of Los Angeles and was active with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles for more than 50 years, serving on its finance committee.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth L. Gabrielson; daughters Marylou Dudley of San Marino, Joan Cooper of San Lorenzo and Jean McCoy of El Centro; sister Myrtle Frampton of Oakland; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for noon today at the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave., where he was a member. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements. Donations can be sent in Gabrielson’s name to the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles.
