Three people were stabbed Friday night after confronting a man who allegedly had threatened them with a gun, police said.

Edward Marshall, 41, his brother Daniel Marshall, 40, and Edward’s son, Michael Marshall, 16, all of San Diego, suffered minor stab and beating wounds at 7:24 p.m. after confronting an apparent gang, a member of which had allegedly threatened them earlier that night, police said.

According to police, Edward Marshall and his wife were driving home with their son when they stopped at a traffic signal at Island Avenue and 16th Street. While stopped, a man came up to their car and threatened them with what appeared to be a gun and demanded money.

The Marshalls sped away, driving to their home nearby, police said. Once there, the woman was dropped off and Daniel Marshall and a friend, Eugene Ochoa, 45, were picked up. The four men returned to 16th Street and “confronted the suspect and his 10 to 20 friends,” police said.

“I guess they were going to try and take care of this kid with the gun,” Sgt. Rod Vandiver said.

Edward Marshall was stabbed in the back and leg, Daniel Marshall was stabbed in the knee and suffered facial bruises, and Micheal Marshall was stabbed in the buttocks, police and hospital officials said.

Edward and Daniel Marshall were taken to Mercy Hospital, where they were in good condition, Vandiver said. Michael Marshall was taken to San Diego General. Ochoa suffered minor injuries and was not treated.

No arrests had been made, Vandiver said.
