Hawthorne 28, Notre Dame 21-- A Knight drive that would have tied the score fizzled at the 14-yard line with less than two minutes to play.

The Cougars took an early 21-7 halftime lead behind two touchdowns by Armando Fernandez, but they allowed Notre Dame (7-3-1) the next two scores.

The winning touchdown came on a 19-yard pass from Jamil Willims to Tarrik Brock with 5:34 to play. Morrell Ollis had 130 yards in 19 carries for Hawthorne (9-2).

The Knights’ main weapon was Setefano Malieitulua, who gained 134 yards in 23 carries.

Quarterback Steve Colella had a hand in all three Notre Dame scores. Colella, who completed seven of 15 passes for 73 yards, hit Kirk Miller for a six-yard score in the second quarter. He added a one-yard scoring run in the third period and hit Miller with a 19-yard pass for the Knights’ final touchdown.

Miller finished with four catches for 49 yards and two touchdowns. He also had an interception.
