The Sidelines : Browning to Decide Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tom Browning, a free agent, expects to decide Wednesday which team he will pitch for next season.
The San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are all competing for Browning’s services, agent Jim Bronner said today.
The left-hander has been with the Reds since 1984 and said he prefers to stay with Cincinnati, but the Reds won’t meet Browning’s demand for a five-year guaranteed contract. Browning said two other teams have made him five-year offers, but he won’t identify them.
Bronner said he has asked the Giants, Dodgers and Cubs to give him their offers by late Tuesday so Browning can make a decision.
General Manager Bob Quinn refused today to comment on the status of contract talks with Browning, or any other Reds player.
