Man Accused of Killing Car Burglary Suspect
A man accused of shooting a suspected burglar who broke into his mother’s car was arrested as he arrived for work Monday, authorities said.
Rudy Cruz Gomez, 18, was arrested on suspicion of killing Manuel Gutierrez, 23, Detective Robert Suter said.
Cruz allegedly shot Gutierrez during a fight about 2 a.m. in the 3000 block of East 8th Street near East Los Angeles after he learned from acquaintances that Gutierrez was among the burglars who allegedly stole tapes from a car owned by Cruz’s mother, Suter said.
Gutierrez was shot once in the abdomen and died less than an hour later at County-USC Medical Center.
Witnesses told police Cruz shot the man. He was arrested Monday at work and held without bail at Parker Center.
