Norwalk : 2 School Administrators Resign in Sex Allegations
An elementary school principal and a district administrator have resigned amid allegations that they had sex on school property, district officials said.
A security guard allegedly found Principal Michael Newcomb of La Pluma Elementary School and Christine Roubidoux, director of elementary education programs, having sex in Newcomb’s office on a Sunday.
The Norwalk-La Mirada Board of Education held closed discussions after the allegations were made on whether they should ask for the pair’s resignation, said a district source.
State education officials said that engaging in sex on school grounds does not violate the state Education Code. However, a school board has the right to fire employees for moral reasons, said Bill Rukeyser, spokesman for the state Department of Education.
A group of parents and employees on Monday brought petitions to the school board meeting asking that Newcomb, a 22-year district employee, be allowed to keep his job.
Roubidoux has worked for the district for six years, school district officials said.
