High-End Tools at Below-List Price

AAA Wholesale Tool & Supply in Northridge is not for the occasional do-it-yourselfer looking for a $9.95 drill. The store focuses on high-end tools for the professional builder and the serious amateur.

There’s a lot of friendly customer service and building know-how dispensed by personnel and the store manager, Gwen Tate, who is a whiz at answering technical questions about how to best use their inventory of top-name tools by Makita, Ryobi, Jepson, Milwaukee, Bosch, Porter Cable, Delta and Hitachi at prices well below average retail. On a regular basis, Makita products are discounted 30% and the other lines 20%.

Some examples: A Makita 9.6-volt cordless driver drill lists at $254; here, it’s tagged $139. A Milwaukee worm drive saw that usually sells for $295 is $207. A Bosch top-of-the-line jigsaw goes for $159, or $76 off retail. For the heavy hitters, a Delta 10-inch contractor’s table saw that regularly carries a hefty $844 price sells here for $649.

Systems Inc. recently introduced an innovative door holder, called the Doorbuk, that works on the principle of gravity, holding the door for the installer. The holder has been receiving a lot of attention from the building trade and sells for $49 at AAA; it lists for $69. If you want it on wheels, it’s $79 rather than $99 elsewhere.

For gift-giving, table-top scroll saws are always popular, particularly with hobbyists. The Dremel scroll saw lists for $291, but AAA’s tag reads $188. For the avid builder, a 1- to 2-inch finish nail gun by Penco sells for $299 instead of $360. The store also carries a full line of router bits, saw blades and replacement parts for the tools.

Since it opened in 1977, AAA has expanded three times, and another expansion is planned before the holidays.

So if you have a few screws loose or just want to get the hobbyists in your life hammering and happy, send them to the store where the professionals go--AAA Wholesale Tool & Supply, 17309 Roscoe Blvd., Northridge, (818) 996-1800.
