The nude body of a man was found at the edge of a remote San Diego County highway near Mt. Laguna, officials said.

The man, described as a “probable transsexual with breast implants” by Coroner’s Deputy George Dickason, was first identified as a woman.

The body was found at 11:40 a.m. Friday at the edge of a turnout at the 33 1/2-mile marker of Sunrise Highway by a vacationer who was staying at the nearby Laguna Mountain Lodge, police said.

Police had originally sent the Metropolitan Homicide Task Force to investigate the death. The task force, which was formed in 1988, deals exclusively with homicides connected with a series of 43 murders of women, mostly prostitutes, in the county since 1985.

Police had said the death mimics the earlier San Diego County homicides, which had been linked to 48 murders of prostitutes and female transients in the Seattle area, but officials would not say Friday whether that theory might still be valid.
