Former Washington Redskin defensive end Dexter Manley, reinstated Monday by the NFL after a one-year ban for substance abuse, joined the Phoenix Cardinals and made an impression in his first practice.

“He was like a wild colt. I saw him buzzing around the field like a spring chicken,” Cardinal Coach Joe Bugel said after the two-hour workout. “He was on the defensive scout team, and I think he gave our guys a big lift. He was not a distraction.”

Manley is not eligible to play until Dec. 9.
