PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : With Ellard Injured, Lomack Activated

With Henry Ellard sidelined because of a hamstring injury, wide receiver Tony Lomack was activated Friday and cornerback Clifford Hicks was placed on waivers.

Lomack, a ninth-round draft choice this year, was a candidate for the fourth wide receiver spot on the roster but suffered a hamstring strain before the season opener and spent the first four weeks of the season on injured reserve. He has been on the practice squad since Oct. 1.

Hicks, a four-year Ram veteran, was active for only one game after undergoing major knee surgery during the off-season.

Ellard, who has been listed as questionable all week, is tied for fourth in the NFL with 51 receptions for 824 yards. He needs five catches to surpass Tom Fears’ club record of 400 receptions for a career.

“There’s no question it hurts us,” Robinson said. “He’s our Jerry Rice, in terms of yards and numbers of catches. I think San Francisco would be nervous without Jerry Rice. We feel the loss when he’s not in there.”
