The nation’s longest losing streak ended at 20 games Sunday as Texas Tech defeated Nevada, 81-69, in the Great Alaska Shootout at Anchorage.

Texas Tech made 12 of 25 three-point shots to gain the victory.

“The losing streak was pretty embarrassing,” said Texas Tech’s Bernard Saulsberry, who scored 16 points. “This was like life or death.”

No. 10 Ohio State 111, Bethune-Cookman 72--Seven Ohio State players scored in double figures as the Buckeyes cruised in their season-opener at Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State’s 111 points was just short of the school record of 112 scored against Butler in 1969 and matched against Ohio University in 1972.

Santa Clara 78, Iowa State 62--Rhea Taylor scored 31 points to lead the Broncos over the Cyclones for third place in the Maui Invitational at Lahaina.

In a late Saturday game, David Johnson scored 26 points and Billy Owens added 25 as No. 13 Syracuse beat Iowa State, 83-67, and advanced to Sunday night’s championship against No. 8 Indiana, a 73-69 winner over Santa Clara.
