Public Input Sought on New Area Codes
Orange County residents will have a chance to evaluate and comment on proposals to split the 714 area code during two meetings sponsored by GTE and Pacific Bell this week.
Both companies recommend a plan that would keep all of Orange County in the 714 area. Riverside and San Bernardino counties, as well as Claremont, Diamond Bar and Pomona in eastern Los Angeles County, would be placed in a new 909 area, phone company officials said. The new boundaries will be announced in January, after evaluation of customer input, and take effect about two years later.
The first meeting will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at the Brea Civic and Cultural Center at 1 Civic Center Circle.
Another meeting will take place on Friday at Irvine City Hall, 1 Civic Center Plaza, from 7 to 9 p.m.
