Bird, Celtics Turn Down the Heat, 118-101
Larry Bird had 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists Monday night to lead the Boston Celtics to their seventh consecutive victory, a 118-101 decision over the Miami Heat.
Boston (11-2), with its best start in five seasons, has the NBA’s second-best record behind Portland (11-0).
Kevin McHale and Kevin Gamble each had 20 points as Boston went to 8-0 against the Heat and improved to 22-1 against expansion teams Miami, Charlotte, Minnesota and Orlando.
The Celtics led, 58-53, at halftime, and broke away with a 13-3 run to open the third quarter.
Rony Seikaly had 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Heat.
