One record company has moved out of its new offices because of employee illnesses, and another music industry tenant requested a state investigation of the Music Row building.

“We are treating this very seriously,” Arista Records Nashville chief Tim DuBois said. “I don’t want my people in that building, and that’s where it stands.”

Arista Records moved out of its offices at the One Music Square North Building last week, and BMG Music Publications on Tuesday requested an investigation by the state’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The other two tenants in the $3-million building that was completed last March are a regional licensing office of Broadcast Music Inc. and RCA Corp., which occupies the top floor.

The building is owned and operated by the Matthews Co. Walker Matthews, head of the Matthews Co.’s property management, said Tuesday that the company was trying to find out if the experts had overlooked something.

Mathews said several tests had been performed, and none showed toxic levels of any substance.

Arista officials said six of the company’s 14 employees experienced nosebleeds, nausea, headaches, sinus problems, bladder infections, disruptions in menstrual cycles, severe rashes, dizziness, lethargy and other symptoms.

Problems became acute about two weeks ago, when the heat was turned on in the new building for the first time, said Merissa Ide, Arista’s publicist.
