Republican state Sen. Rebecca Morgan has told Gov.-elect Pete Wilson that she is not interested in being appointed to his U.S. Senate seat, saying that she wants to stay in California. Morgan, of Los Altos Hills, said Wilson told her she was on his “short list” of possible candidates, but she asked that her name be removed. “I am flattered to have been considered, but truly enjoy working in an arena where I can play a major role in shaping the educational and economic future of California,” she said. Morgan said she will consider running for a statewide office in 1994. As a leader in education legislation, Morgan has been rumored as a potential candidate to succeed state schools chief Bill Honig.
