Son Turns In Dad

Share

Your Nov. 16 article (Part A) about the 9-year-old Canoga Park boy who told Los Angeles police his father used cocaine is disturbing.

I was raised in a small Mississippi town where alcohol was, and still is to this day, illegal. My mother was an alcoholic who brought her booze in from another county. If society really wants its children to turn in their parents for illegal drug use, then I should’ve turned in my own mother to the local police or sheriff, as alcohol is certainly a drug and is certainly illegal in that county.

But does anyone believe that this would’ve been the best thing to do for this woman, who other than liking to drink too much, was a productive, happy member of that society?

If so, bring back Prohibition across the nation. If not, then see the counterproductiveness of the current prohibition on “illegal” drugs.

Pointing up the sad irony of today’s prohibition is that directly beneath your article is an ad for a Hollywood bar and restaurant.
