COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : AZTECS : Rowe Planning to Return

Share

There has been a certain amount of speculation that after his record-breaking junior year, Aztec receiver Patrick Rowe might be tempted to forgo his senior year and turn pro. But Rowe said speculation is all it was. “So many people have asked me about it, but I’m going to stay in school and get my degree,” said Rowe, who would be eligible for this year’s draft because his class is graduating. “I think I’d like to get another year of experience. With all the injuries, I’ve only had one healthy year. I’d sure like to put another good year together and then then see how I would do.”

But Patrick, with all the pro scouts around this week looking at Aztec quarterback Dan McGwire, haven’t you even been tempted? “I haven’t been that curious, although I have been getting letters from agents,” Rowe said. “I haven’t answered any of them though.”

Rowe, who tied an NCAA record last week with his eighth-consecutive 100 yard-receiving game, said this season has made him think seriously about an NFL career. “Before Monty Gilbreath left, he told me that you make your mark during your junior year. That’s why it’s up to me to finish the season strong against Miami.”
