Christmas Tree Facts--Until the 1940s, all real Christmas trees in the United States were cut down in forests, adding to the country’s deforestation problem. Today, more than 90% of the trees are grown on tree farms, according to the California Christmas Tree Growers Assn.

While many of the trees end up at tree lots and grocery stores to be sold, there are still several tree farms in Orange County where customers can pick out and cut down their own trees.

The following is a sampling of local choose-and-cut tree farms and their hours:
