Thumbing a Ride to L.A.: Television film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert will be flashing their famous thumbs weeknights on Disney-owned KCAL Channel 9’s 9 p.m. newscast beginning Wednesday.5 The two Chicago-based critics will appear together live from the Windy City Wednesday to introduce their segment, a KCAL spokeswoman said. After that, Siskel and Ebert will alternate offering pre-taped reviews. The duo’s nationally syndicated show is carried by KABC locally. Siskel also reviews regularly for “CBS This Morning.” A KCAL spokeswoman said that Siskel and Ebert will be given full editorial freedom, even if that means pointing “thumbs down” on Disney films.
