Driver Dies as Car Plunges Off Cliff
A suspected drunk driver was killed early Thursday morning near Santa Clarita when his car went off a cliff, plummeted 300 feet down a canyon and burst into flames, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The unidentified driver was traveling south at 40 m.p.h. on Cherokee Trail near Saugus Road about 2:30 a.m. when he missed a turn, said CHP Officer Harold Daily. A passenger, Trevor Holtan, 22, of Chatsworth was in serious condition at Sherman Oaks Community Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
