Murder Charges Filed After Botched Robbery
Murder charges were filed Thursday against two would-be robbers whose accomplice was killed during an aborted robbery of marijuana and cash at a Canoga Park house earlier this week, authorities said.
Police are searching for a third man suspected of masterminding the Monday night robbery.
Matthew Joseph Rubinstein, 19, and Gian Marshall Cummings, 20, are accused in the death of Pat Minooei Parjad, 19, who was killed as the three attempted to rob two men at gunpoint at a house in the 8500 block of Fullbright Avenue, prosecutors said.
Parjad was fatally shot as he entered the house.
Armed with shotguns, the three men planned to steal 60 pounds of marijuana and $300,000 in cash from the house, according to court records. Los Angeles police on Thursday declined to comment on whether any drugs or cash were found at the house, and said residents of the house are not under investigation.
In addition to murder, Rubinstein and Cummings are charged with kidnaping for robbery, residential burglary and conspiracy to commit residential robbery. Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Kenneth Barshop said police were searching for Arrik Shane Black, 23, who is believed to have planned the robbery. Barshop said Black will be charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
Bail for Rubinstein and Cummings was set at $1 million apiece. The pair will be arraigned Dec. 14.
