PREP ROUNDUP : Katella Beats No. 1 Laguna Hills in Soccer

Armando Orizaba scored two goals to lead Katella High School to a 5-2 victory over Laguna Hills, the No. 1-ranked team in Division 2-A, in a nonleague boys’ soccer game Friday at Laguna Hills.

Mike Rubio, Jesse Santivanez and Jorge Garcia also scored for Katella (4-1), ranked fifth in 2-A. Juan Strutton scored twice for Laguna Hills (1-1).

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Villa Park 2, Fullerton 0--David Szekeres and Eric Peterson scored in the first half for host Villa Park (3-0).

Magnolia 4, Buena Park 1--Enrique Rodriguez scored twice, Eleazar Alvarado and Salah Zahran each scored once for host Magnolia. Gustavio Bonell scored for Buena Park (2-2).

Canyon 3, Ganesha 1--Luis Tavares, Matt Kaspelic and Steve Frize each scored to lead visiting Canyon (4-1). Neal Alvarado scored for Ganesha. Greg Tibble had four saves for Ganesha and Chris Snitko had six saves for Canyon.

Savanna 3, Loara 2--Max Longo, Jorge Ordaz and Julian Ramirez each scored goals to give host Savanna (2-2-1) a 3-0 lead before Loara scored two in the second half.

In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:

Mater Dei 3, University 2--Louie Cevallos scored with 20 seconds remaining in the game to give Mater Dei fifth place in the tournament. All the scoring took place in the second half of the game. Trevor Ickes scored first for Mater Dei and then University’s Pattrick Meier tied the score, 1-1. Shawn Wyns then scored again for the Monarchs and Diego Serrano tied the score, 2-2, with two minutes remaining.

In the Irvine girls’ soccer tournament:

Corona del Mar 3, Laguna Hills 0--Lisa Boatman scored two goals--both in the second half--and Suzie Abrams scored one for Corona del Mar (3-1) in a consolation semifinal at Heritage Park.
