Anti-Semitism in Poland
In her article on prejudice in Poland, Lipstadt reported that Lech Walesa has “called on Jews to stop hiding their identity, buttressing the popular perception that many ‘closet’ Jews are in powerful positions.”
Bigotry is always frightening, but this example is bizarre. Do Walesa and his fellow Poles really think that their nation is governed by corpses? If Walesa will not refute his supporters who yell, “Jews to the gas,” he and his nation are lost. While the world pretends to fuss over Saddam Hussein (read oil), the spirit of Hitler is alive and well in Europe.
