UCLA Considering Plan to Build Luxury Boxes at Pauley Pavilion

UCLA is considering a plan to build luxury boxes high above the court at Pauley Pavilion, an athletic department official said over the weekend.

“We think there’s a big demand,” said Steve Salm, associate athletic director for business and finance. “Preliminary inquiries have indicated that both corporations and individuals would be interested in buying them.”

Plans call for about 45 boxes to seat eight to 10 people, increasing the arena’s capacity to about 13,000. The boxes would hang out over the stands at a level where the Bruins’ championship banners now hang. They would be accessible via elevators that would be built outside the arena, Salm said.

“It hasn’t been approved by the university,” Salm said of the plan, “but we’ve got a developer who’s interested in doing it.”
