Santa Clarita Hires Full-Time Lobbyist
Michael Murphy, administrative aide to Assemblywoman Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) for seven years, has been hired as a full-time lobbyist by Santa Clarita, city officials announced Monday.
As the city’s first governmental affairs officer, Murphy will represent Santa Clarita before area, state and federal governments, City Manager George Caravalho said. Murphy’s job will include handling development and transportation issues and lobbying against plans by Los Angeles County to open garbage dumps near the city in Towsley and Elsmere canyons.
Murphy, a Simi Valley resident, will begin work Dec. 19 with an annual salary of $43,440. The council had hired a lobbying firm, Capital Representation Group, for $5,000 a month last year but fired the company in September.
