Oceanside
A transvestite prostitute was shot and killed in Oceanside late Monday night, but police do not believe the killing was related to the slayings of four other transvestite prostitutes.
Carlos Santiago, 25, also known as Carlos Santana or by the street name of Tasha, was found shot to death in the driveway of the Wally Johnson Motel on North Hill Street at 11:48 p.m. Monday, according to Bob George, public information officer for the Oceanside police.
Santiago was found when police responded to a report that shots were being fired.
Since June, four men who dressed as women and worked as prostitutes have been slain in San Diego County. Three had been shot and the fourth was struck by a car and dragged several hundred feet near a nightclub on University Avenue in San Diego where female impersonators perform.
Santiago had lived in Oceanside several years.
