The manager of an El Cajon auto body shop was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a mechanic who had worked for him.
Allen Lowry, 41, of Santee was found guilty in the June 20 shooting of Jeffrey Wise, 26, of El Cajon, who died two days later from a neck wound.
A San Diego Superior Court jury acquitted Lowry of first-degree murder, the finding sought by Deputy Dist. Atty. Genaro Ramirez.
Judge Melinda Lasater set sentencing for Jan. 9. Lowry could be sentenced to a maximum of 17 years to life in state prison.
Lowry had testified that he accidentally shot Wise, who had quit working for him two days earlier.
