Reform Rabbis Urge Action on Iraq’s Arms

NEW YORK — Reform rabbis have urged the United States to take “the necessary steps” to eliminate Iraq’s arsenal for nuclear, chemical and biological warfare.
The executive board of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, representing the country’s 1,600 Reform rabbis, also urged President Bush to pursue charges of war crimes against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
The board, in a statement Tuesday, insisted that the United States continue to reject “any kind of linkage” between the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Israeli presence in the West Bank and Gaza.
It expressed hope for a peaceful solution, but said: “We believe in peace, but not at any cost.”
