Santa Monica : Food Bank Gets $15,000
The Joseph Drown Foundation has donated $15,000 to the Westside Food Bank for food purchases.
Bruce Rankin, executive director of the food bank, said the donation will help provide 75,000 meals, mostly for children.
The Drown Foundation was established in the mid-1950s and provides funding primarily for educational and medical research.
The food bank was founded in 1981 by the Westside Ecumenical Conference, the Interfaith Hunger Coalition and local social service agencies. It purchases and collects surplus food and distributes it free to 32 nonprofit agencies serving needy people in Santa Monica, Venice, Westchester, West Los Angeles, West Hollywood and Inglewood.
