Military Cancels FOG Missile: The Army said it is canceling development of the FOG-M missile, a $2-billion program that has been under development at Boeing and Hughes Aircraft. The Army said the development cost for the “fiber optic guided missile,” intended to destroy enemy tanks and helicopters, has tripled to $400 million over the past two years. The service had planned to buy 100,000 missiles made by Hughes and 2,000 ground launchers made by Boeing. A Hughes spokesman said the firm has about 20 employees assigned to the program in Canoga Park and 185 in Tucson, Ariz. Under the cancellation, flight testing will continue until next September and no immediate layoffs are contemplated, the Hughes spokesman said.
