COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Downs Ventura for Championship

Erik Martin scored 30 points and Corie Blount added 24 to lead Rancho Santiago College to a 78-66 victory over Ventura Friday in the championship game of the Pasadena Tournament.

Blount, a 6-foot-10 forward, was chosen the most valuable player of the tournament for Rancho Santiago (12-1), which also won the tournament last year. Martin, a 6-6 forward, was picked to the all-tournament team.

In the Glendale tournament:

Los Angeles City 67, Cypress 65--Charles Lockard and Eric Pauley each missed short jumpers in the final five seconds as Cypress lost in a championship-round semifinal game.

L.A. City (9-2) took the lead, 67-65, on a layup by Develle Walker with about a minute left.

Lockard finished with a team-high 16 points, Chris Bowen had 15 and Pauley 12. Jim Waikle had eight blocks for Cypress.

Cypress (8-5) played without starters Brian Kenney (sore back) and Sam Sabbara (twisted ankle) for the third consecutive game.

In the Riverside tournament:

Golden West 102, Fullerton 89--Scott Campbell, a transfer from Cal State Fullerton, scored a game-high 32 points for Golden West (6-8), which advances to the consolation championship at 1 p.m. today. Fullerton (8-6) is eliminated.

Campbell was 13 of 21 from the field, including four of seven three-point tries, and Golden West shot 59% (38 of 69) for the game. Ric Van Scoyoc added 22 points and 12 assists for Golden West.

Bob Terry scored 26 and Gary Hunter 18 for Fullerton.

In the Cuesta women’s tournament:

Golden West 98, Alan Hancock 83--Bits Sirchia scored 20 points for Golden West (11-1).

Cuesta 63, Orange Coast 54--Kami Bigler had 19 points for Orange Coast (8-5).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Fullerton 63, El Camino 58--Sig Lo made a three-point play with 5:41 left to give host Fullerton a 54-51 lead. Nicki Durity scored 20 points to lead Fullerton (10-2).

Citrus 61, Cypress 60--Chris Bazzel scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds for Cypress (1-11).
