A 26-year-old Corona man was shot several times in the head and upper body Saturday morning by an assailant who tried to rob him outside a commercial complex, police said.

The victim, identified by police as Eric Raymond Silva, was in critical condition late Saturday at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Police said that they have no suspects in the 6 a.m. shooting and that Silva has been unable to provide a description.

According to Lt. Ray Welch, Silva told police that he had just driven into the complex at 3650 E. Mira Loma Ave. when an unknown assailant tried to take his wallet, then shot him several times. Silva said he walked about 200 yards to the intersection of Tustin and Mira Loma avenues and flagged down a passing motorist for help.

“We don’t know exactly why he (Silva) was there or any other information,” Welch said. “He’s in real critical condition, and our major concern was getting him help.”

He said there had been no previous reports of problems in the area.
