Culver City Jurist Is Named Judge of Year
Harold I. Cherness, presiding judge of the Culver City Municipal Court, has been named 1990 Trial Judge of the Year by an organization of criminal lawyers.
The award by the Criminal Courts Bar Assn. of Los Angeles County normally goes to a Superior Court judge, according to an association spokesman. Cherness, 68, is the first Municipal Court judge to receive the award, the spokesman said. Cherness has been on the Culver City municipal bench since 1975.
John Yzurdiaga of the association said Cherness was noted for being fair and gentlemanly, as well as showing concern for the defendants who come before him.
