Daily News Seeks ‘Super-Mediator’: The publisher of the strikebound New York Daily News called for the appointment of a federal mediator to force both sides toward a settlement. “What we are in favor of is a very high-powered, super-mediator . . . to come in and knock everybody’s heads together,” Publisher James Hoge said on a television news program. Hoge and Newspaper Guild President Barry Lipton both rejected binding arbitration.
