Sewage Spill Closes Beach

Nearly 20,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the ocean Sunday in Imperial Beach, a county public health service spokesman said.
A 6 p.m. pump station failure caused the sewage to flow into the ocean at 800 Seacoast Drive. Workers contained the spill at 8 p.m.
Warning signs have been posted within 100 feet on either side of the spill. The area will remain closed for at least 24 hours.
